Database Curriculum
ASERT has a range of Database courses. If you don't see what you are after, please
contact us to discuss your training needs. Our courseware is very modular, so we can often
put together something which meets your needs.
DB101: Database Driven Websites with J2EE (2 days)
This is an intensive two-day course designed to provide attendees
with a background in architecting web systems. Students will gain
a formal appreciation of the pros and cons of database-driven
web sites and systems, an understanding of Oracle's web development
& deployment options, and a hands-on appreciation of J2EE
technologies which facilitate database-driven website development.
All material is presented with a view to enabling a manageable,
content-driven, robust and extensible enterprise website.
DB102: Database Systems - A Primer on Database Design, Development and
Management (4 days)
This intensive course is designed to give the student a broad
understanding of the key aspects, issues, techniques, and products
related to modern database systems.
DB103: Introduction to Data Modelling (1/2 day)
This seminar is designed to give the student a broad understanding
of the key aspects, issues, techniques, and products related
to data modelling for modern database systems. Topics covered
include types of data modelling, stages of analysis, converting
between different types of models, modelling notations, handling
meta data and modelling work practices.
DB203: Oracle and XML (2 days)
This course examines how to use XML in conjunction with Oracle
Databases. Techniques covered include Java XML parsers, Servlets
& XML, XML & PL/SQL, JDBC & XML and iFS. Hands-on
exercises build upon the theoretical material covered.
DB204: JDBC Best Practice (1 day)
Data access technologies provide a preferred means for applications
to interface with Database Management Systems such as Oracle 9i
to ensure maximum flexibility in a distributed architecture. Sun's
JDBC technology, part of the J2EE framework, is a standard API
for achieving database connectivity from Java programs. This course
provides a technical and architectural overview, best practices
and techniques for developing with JDBC for Java/J2EE applications
within your organisation. Technical aspects of JDBC including
the latest versions of the standard are covered as well as practical
implications of how using JDBC will impact your development and
administration processes. The course will also cover the range
of JDBC implementations that support access to the Oracle 9i DBMS
platform. Hands-on development and deployment exercises will provide
essential exposure to the technology.
